Arthur Mesher, CEO at Descartes, said that Telargo’s technology would be integrated into Descartes’ suite of logistics software that helps freight carriers determine optimal routing and scheduling for their vehicles.

“Our customers really wanted one vendor to provide the total solution,” Mesher said.

Telematics data helps fleet owners manage their vehicles, workforce, equipment and cargo. It can be used for real-time decision making, and for providing estimated time of arrival notifications and operational analysis. The information also makes it easier for fleet owners to comply with transportation regulations such as driver hours of service and fuel tax reporting regulations.

The acquisition of Telargo was completed for $9.6 million US in cash.
