As the wind energy industry continues to develop with larger equipment and identifying better sources of wind, developers have begun to take advantage the benefits of placing new wind farms in the ocean.

Floating turbines are being built that dwarf the size of those on land.

Mooring lines attached to the seabed give the floating wind turbines their stability. The use of these lines gives them the flexibility needed for placement in deepwater coastlines like Greece, Norway, and Portugal.

The access to more power wind found in open waters has helped reduce the cost of wind energy as well.
