In recent months, eleven unions, representing roughly 92,000 railway workers, have been focused on reaching an agreement on a new contract with approximately 30 railroads, including Union Pacific Corp. and CSX Corp.
Since the unions were unable to reach the agreement with the railroads, some of the unions voted and decided to begin a strike at midnight on Thursday, October 6th.
As a result, President Barack Obama lately developed a board to resolve this dispute so that the strike will be avoided for the time being - for at least 60 days.
