Truckload carrier Schneider National Inc. was named to the CivilianJobs.com 2012 Most Valuable Employers for Military winner’s list.

The annual Most-valuable Employers for Military list serves to help military-experienced job seekers identify the nation’s best companies for civilian careers, according to the list’s developer CivilianJobs.com. Schneider National was honored shortly after announcing its commitment to hire 650 military members throughout the country in 2012.

“We are honored to have earned this recognition as a top employer for current and former military members,” says Mike Hinz, a vice president at Schneider and a veteran of the U.S. Army and Reserve. “With their diverse skill set and outstanding work ethic, current and former military members have proven time and time again that they make outstanding associates. According to Hinz, while Schneider National is hiring in all areas of its business, the greatest area of opportunity is for professional truck drivers.

The 2012 Most Valuable Employers for Military was open to all U.S.-based companies. The finalists, which were announced in February, were selected on the basis of surveys in which employers outlined their recruiting, training and retention plans that best serve military service members and veterans. Schneider was selected as a winner from this pool of finalists.

Among Schneider’s many offerings for current and former military members is its Apprenticeship Program. Because of Schneider’s long-standing commitment to veterans, Guard members and Reservists, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) accepted Schneider into its exclusive Apprenticeship Program. During their first year at Schneider, drivers with a military background are eligible to earn a monthly educational benefit check from the VA in addition to their paycheck — up to $1,069 each month depending on the number of years of service.

Other military-specific benefits Schneider offers include guaranteed home time for weekend drill and annual training for Guard and Reserve members as well as extended benefits and differential pay during deployment.
