Unilever has agreed to work with logistics provider DHL on a host of sustainability initiatives.

The fmcg giant will collaborate with DHL Supply Chain on areas including sustainable warehouse design, advanced aerodynamics, alternative fuels and hybrid electric vehicles.

Also on the agenda will be improved waste management and better tracking of subcontractor emissions.

The companies said the initiatives would play an important part in fast-growing markets such as Brazil, Russia, India and Mexico.

“Since the initiatives are all still being fleshed out, there will be some flex on this, with different plans being enacted in various ways, as best suit the requirements of each project,” a Unilever spokesperson said.

DHL’s ‘GoGreen’ policy aims to improve its carbon efficiency and that of its subcontractors by 30 percent compared to 2007 levels by the year 2020.
