Dole & Safety Chain’s Approach to Food Safety

SafetyChain Software has announced that Dole Fresh Vegetables, a major producer of fresh fruits and vegetables, has gone live with SafetyChain for Food for a “fresh approach” to its food safety initiatives.

SafetyChain Software is a provider of safety chain management solutions that help manage and promote safety and quality compliance at all points in a consumable goods supply chain.

“At Dole, food safety is always our first priority,” said Nye Joell Hardy, Dole Fresh Vegetables’ senior food safety manager. Hardy is responsible for the company’s field food safety programs in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America and South America.

“We cannot wait for suppliers’ safety assessments – we take a pro-active, prevention-based approach. We ensure all food safety programs are followed at the start of every point of production, from planting to harvest to post-harvest,” continues Hardy. “Additionally, we are taking steps that prepare us for compliance with announced and anticipated FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rules. We partnered with SafetyChain because it has the food safety technology innovations, capabilities, prevention-focus and customer responsiveness that meets our needs exceptionally well.”

Dole’s current and continued phases include using SafetyChain for Food to:

  • Proactively ensure supplier compliance in the field – pre-harvest, during harvest and post-harvest – for all food safety requirements.
  • Conduct immediate food safety assessments from data sent via mobile devices – with real time alerts when corrective actions are required.
  • Respond to regulatory, non-regulatory and customer audits “on demand.”
  • Have real time food safety traceability access to the electronic “paper chain” for mock and potential withdrawals and recalls.
