NFI, Ocean Spray Expand Partnership in Lehigh Valley

The 980,000-square-foot distribution center currently under construction will fulfill needs for Ocean Spray’s local manufacturing facility.

NFI, a supply chain company headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, is announced an expanding partnership with Ocean Spray in the Lehigh Valley, Penn.

NFI and Ocean Spray are continuing a partnership of 13 years with a new distribution operation in the Lehigh Valley, Penn. The 980,000-square-foot distribution center currently under construction will fulfill needs for Ocean Spray’s local just-in-time manufacturing facility. Construction broke ground on the distribution center in July 2013 and completion of the project is scheduled for the summer of 2014.

Edward Poloway, Ocean Spray Operations & Supply Chain director, explains: “The volume that will be executed from this location will represent 40 percent of Ocean Spray’s total North American volume. It will be the largest distribution center operation we have anywhere in the world.”

NFI is supporting Ocean Spray’s specific needs in a space that allows flexibility based on necessity and is located in an area of economic growth and development.

Assurance of Supply: A Top Concern for Manufacturers

Every manufacturer has an assurance of supply problem to some extent due to the complexity of global sourcing. For years, manufacturers were blessed with high margins but margins have grown paper thin. You can’t fill up your distribution centers with excess inventory – not only is there a cost factor but the pace of business and consumer buying trends causes goods to quickly turn obsolete. Assurance of supply provides the speed and agility that is essential to being able to compete in today’s market.
