Averitt Earns LTL Gold Award From Dick’s Sporting Goods

Averitt was recognized with the honor during the 2nd Annual Dick's Sporting Goods Logistics Conference in Pittsburgh.

In three years, Averitt Express has gone from being a new carrier for Dick’s Sporting Goods to earning the national retailer’s 2013 Gold Award in the less-than-truckload (LTL) category.

Averitt was recognized with the honor during the 2nd Annual Dick’s Sporting Goods Logistics Conference in Pittsburgh. Averitt was the only LTL carrier to receive an award.

“We’re humbled to have been selected for a Gold Award by Dick’s Sporting Goods,” said Gary Sasser, Averitt’s president and CEO. “Our team makes a daily commitment to provide service excellence, making sure we’re helping our customers reach their goals. When we succeed, our customers succeed, and that’s really what awards like this symbolize: a true win-win situation for Averitt and our customers.”

To help the retailer achieve its logistics goals, Averitt customized an inbound program from all of Dick’s Sporting Goods’ vendors within the Averitt network to Dick’s distribution center in Georgia. This inbound program includes merchandise for both Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy (which is also a Dick’s Sporting Goods company). Averitt also transported the outbound freight to numerous Golf Galaxy stores in the Southeast.

The recognition comes at a time of growth for the Dick’s Sporting Goods logistics network, as the company plans to continue expanding its store base and distribution network.

Assurance of Supply: A Top Concern for Manufacturers

Every manufacturer has an assurance of supply problem to some extent due to the complexity of global sourcing. For years, manufacturers were blessed with high margins but margins have grown paper thin. You can’t fill up your distribution centers with excess inventory – not only is there a cost factor but the pace of business and consumer buying trends causes goods to quickly turn obsolete. Assurance of supply provides the speed and agility that is essential to being able to compete in today’s market.
