ImportGenius.com., Alibaba.com Partner for Trade Research, Product Sourcing Services

This collaboration combines research and commerce seamlessly for the first time.

ImportGenius.com, a provider of business intelligence for the import-export industry, has partnered with Alibaba.com, a platform for cross-border wholesale trade to launch a ground-breaking research and commerce service.

ImportGenius.com provides data mining tools that make complex trading relationships easy to understand. Its diverse members use the service to extract detailed information relating to all aspects of cross-border trade, including shipping records, product lines and exporting volumes for factories around the world.

By partnering with Alibaba.com, ImportGenius is now able to offer a sourcing option to its members, linking trade research with the buying cycle for the first time. When a member searches for data about particular products, ImportGenius will offer to route that query through Alibaba.com’s AliSourcePro service. Members will then receive quotes for those goods from verified suppliers within 24 hours.

This enables ImportGenius members to act swiftly on the trade data they discover. By submitting product queries directly through ImportGenius.com, they can quickly adjust their product lines and go-to-market strategies.

Michael Lee, director of global marketing and business development, Alibaba.com, says, “We’re delighted to be working with ImportGenius. It’s a great fit for our business and partnering with an import and export database is a natural evolution for Alibaba.com. We are also excited to introduce ImportGenius users to the Alibaba.com platform, where small businesses can sell their products to companies in other countries and source merchandise from abroad.”

Assurance of Supply: A Top Concern for Manufacturers

Every manufacturer has an assurance of supply problem to some extent due to the complexity of global sourcing. For years, manufacturers were blessed with high margins but margins have grown paper thin. You can’t fill up your distribution centers with excess inventory – not only is there a cost factor but the pace of business and consumer buying trends causes goods to quickly turn obsolete. Assurance of supply provides the speed and agility that is essential to being able to compete in today’s market.
