Anchorage is already the world's fourth-busiest freight airport, however new cargo transfer rules along with an expanded U.S.-China air services pact promise to boost traffic at Anchorage and increase the demand for logistics services.
One aviation industry consultant remarked that Anchorage could be on a "progression from a gas-and-go hub to a trans-load hub and ultimately a logistics services hub."
Roughly half of the all-cargo flights between China and the U.S. will go through Anchorage in the next five years, which increases the potential for value-added distribution services.
