China has surpassed Japan to become the second-biggest consumer of PCs after the U.S. In fact, China has acquired an impressive appetite for technology. There are nearly 100 million Internet users and 15 million subscribers to DSL service, while the number of cellphone subscribers-250 million-is the highest in the world.
Technology clusters, like those in Silicon Valley, Boston, and Seattle, are also sprouting up in China. Guangdong province in southern China is home to most TV, stereo, and computer assembly, while production of notebook PCs can primarily be found in Suzhou, near Shanghai.
