China's Supreme People's Court announced in December that the country's court system will now be allowed to consider lawsuits challenging government actions concerning antidumping measures designed to protect the domestic industry. Importers and exporters who were previously harmed by such decisions now have a way to protest such measures. Nonetheless, there's some concern that such lawsuits may not be given a fair consideration by the court, given that the judicial system is so closely tied to the government. Observers are encouraged by the development, as it brings China more in line with its obligations under the WTO.
