DSC Logistics Recognized for Green Supply Chains

DSC Logistics, an integrated logistics and supply chain management company headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois, announced that it has been selected to receive the 2009 Green Supply Chain award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive (SDCE) magazine. The award recognizes companies that "stand out for their projects to incorporate sustainability objectives into their own supply chains or to enable sustainability in their customers' supply chains."

In 2009, DSC Logistics established a Sustainability Statement of Purpose, which pledges that DSC will 1) adopt practices that promote the responsible use of resources throughout our company; 2) work with our customers to support and realize the value of sustainability initiatives; 3) help employees understand that actions we all take impact our world and encourage employees to think greener in all aspects of their lives. DSC has formed a Sustainability Steering Committee to measure our company progress towards our sustainability goals throughout our logistics center network. Additionally, DSC Logistics was accepted into the SmartWaySM Transport Partnership, an innovative collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, and improve energy security. DSC received certification as a logistics provider and as a carrier partner.

"Even in the wake of the recession, 'sustainability' has become an essential focus for organizations that would seek to maintain their competitive advantage, protect their market share and preserve their brand image," said Andrew K. Reese, editor, Supply & Demand Chain Executive. "The 2009 Green Supply Chain Awards highlights this paradigm shift and the role of the supply chain as a key enabler of sustainability."
