Government wants to double capacity within 4 years
India’s government has plans to build a new deep-sea port in the state of West Bengal, and has begun talking to potential developers about the project.“Currently, the biggest challenge for the country’s port sector is that of inadequate drafts,” explained India’s shipping minister, who added that one of the country’s biggest ports, Jawaharlal Nehru, is in the midst of a $800 million dollar dredging project.
India will spend $12 billion to double its port capacity to one billion tons by 2012.
