The agreement between the Northwest Fruit Exporters, an industry group, and the Mexican government became effective at the end of February.
The whopping tariffs have been in place since 1997, after Mexico accused U.S. producers of dumping, or unfairly selling apples in Mexico at below U.S. market prices.
The Pacific Northwest region is the United States' major producer of apples, and Mexico, Canada, and Taiwan are the region's top export markets.
Washington state exported $607 million in products to Mexico in 2003, including $150 million in food and other agricultural products, and increase of 40 percent from 2002.
