For instance, the Rockefeller Group, (www.rockgroupdevelopment.com), recently opened its fourth, the 300-acre Cranbury, NJ, site, which is only 35 miles from New York and 50 miles from Philadelphia. It also operates the 300-acre Mount Olive, NJ, zone, the 280-acre Homestead and the 171-acre Palm Beach, Fla., zones. It is planning still another near St. Louis in partnership with Tristar.
U.S. Customs officials staff the zones so no duties are paid until the goods stored or assembled in them are shipped. In addition to the days saved bypassing customs at ports of entry, no duty is payable on goods and products shipped from the zones to foreign destinations.
This means that one tenant, a famous cosmetics provider, can, for example, import concentrated essences from France, dilute and bottle them and then export to Latin America duty-free. Incidentally, the Rockefellers have no interest in the Group--it's owned by Mitsubishi.
