Already, officials from the port are discussing plans with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to station U.S. agents at the port, which is located on the Gulf of California about 220 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border, so that cargo could be inspected at the port then moved quickly across the U.S. border.
A meeting is planned for later this month to discuss a rail transport corridor that would run from the Port of Guaymas north to the border city of Nogales, Arizona.
Once constructed, the Guaymas box terminal would be the second new terminal on Mexico's west coast.
