According to the Vietnam News Agency, the 61.2-hectare port will be built at a cost of nearly 3 trillion VND (US$188.7 million).
The Tan Cang-Cai Mep deep-water river port, with its proximity to the sea and ability to handle 60,000- to 80,000-ton vessels, is expected to become a large transit port for the southern region.
The Tan Cang-Cai Mep port is the first part of the Cai Mep-Thi Vai International Port Complex, one of a group of ports planned for development in the region covering Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai province and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, says the Vietnam News Agency.
With its proximity to the sea, the Tan Cang-Cai Mep deep-water river port is expected to become a large transit port for the southern region.
