South Korea opened a new international airport, Incheon International Airport, in March, which will replace Seoul's Kimpo airport as the country's gateway for international flights. Kimpo airport will now be used strictly for domestic flights. Although "Inchon" was the original name for the new airport, it was later changed to "Incheon" following new government rules aimed at romanizing Korean names. South Korea hopes Incheon International Airport will better position the country as Northeast Asia's main air-travel hub and will be able to handle 100 million passengers by 2020. Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia and Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok Airport will be its top competitors.
