The Martin-Brower Company L.L.C. announced that its environmental management system (EMS) enabled the quick service food distributer to achieved ISO 14001 certification in 14 of its U.S. distribution centers with the remaining four U.S. operations set to be certified in 2013.
A global distributor of food and service products for McDonald’s restaurants, Martin Brower created and implemented an EMS to identify waste reduction opportunities and improve energy efficiency practices in all of its facilities and across all of its operations in the U.S.
“We applaud Martin Brower’s efforts in incorporating sustainability goals into their business and investing in the systems to manage, measure, and continuously improve operations,” said Susan Forsell, McDonald’s vice president, quality systems.
“Our sustainability efforts began years ago, but our greatest improvements did not happen until we deployed a consistent environmental standard for all of our operations and opened ourselves up to external audits,” said Brian Hancock, president of Martin Brower North America. “Through the findings of the separate ISO 14001 audits at each center we were able to make improvements to our EMS resulting in tremendous reductions in the amount of resources we use and the amount of waste we generate.”
“We’ve deployed an environmental policy, EMS and an environmental scorecard in all 18 of our U.S. distribution centers,” continued Hancock. “The combination of these sustainability tools and the ISO 14001 audits will ensure that we meet our goals of continuous green house gas emission reductions and zero waste operations.”
