Currently, Indian Railways runs double-stack trains between the western Port of Pipavav and Jaipur in the north. It’s hoped that the railroad can boost container traffic to 100 million tons by 2011-12, up from the current 20 million tons.
Meanwhile, India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a $6.1 billion rail project that will connect the country’s major ports on the east and west coasts.
