South Korea's export sector is growing dramatically with China providing much of the boost. Exports surged 38.3 percent in April from the year-earlier month to a record $21.74 billion. That helped swell the nation's trade surplus to $2.91 billion, its highest since December 1998 and more than triple the year-earlier $962 million, according to the country's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.
Nonetheless, there's concern that China may further tighten monetary policy to cool an overheating economy. If so, South Korea may not be able to rely on exports to fuel its economy.
China accounted for 80 percent of South Korea's trade surplus of $15 billion last year.
