Port director Don Allee says the facility's revenues are expected to surpass the $6.1 million mark for the first time in its 52-year history. In addition, Allee says the Port's tonnage figures are expected to grow nearly 36 percent overall compared to the previous fiscal year to surpass the 2.7 million ton level.
On top of the banner year for earnings and tonnage, Allee reports the port has completed the largest capital expansion program in its history, including a 680-foot extension of the Harbor Island Marine Terminal, which was dedicated in late June. Port officials say there are plans in the works to build a 100,000 square foot transit shed adjacent to the new wharf.
Officials say the Port of Beaumont is expecting the good news to continue and are forecasting a 4 percent growth in revenues and a 6 percent growth in tonnage for F.Y. 2002-2003.-J.S.
