According to Republican Congressman Chris Smith, the chairman of the House International Relations Subcommittee on Africa, Global Human Rights and International Operations and Donald Payne, the subcommittee's ranking Democrat, most of the trade thus far has centered around extractive industries, such as oil. And, most of that trade has excluded small- and medium-sized companies.

Ultimately, more needs to be done for Africa's agricultural sector, urged the lawmakers.
