Don't count on free trade between the U.S. and Jordan just yet. The Senate may not ratify the agreement soon because Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas, among others, objects to provisions calling for the imposition of, "appropriate or commensurate" measures if either country tries to obtain a trade advantage by not enforcing its environmental or labor laws. A compromise is likely, though, so ratification should only be delayed, not defeated.
